City of Wichita Aquifer Storage and Recovery Program

Pipeline projects

The city of Wichita's Aquifer storage and Recovery (ASR) program is currently in Phase II of four Phases of construction. Several pipeline projects are included in Phase II.

New steel pipe will replace a large portion of original water transmission lines, which date from the 1950s and are prone to breakage. The 15 mile main transmission line for the city of Wichita's water supply will be upgraded from 48 inch to 66 inch steel pipe. New water lines will be constructed, and lines to existing wells will be replaced with larger-capacity pipe. In all, about 30 miles of new pipeline will be laid as part of Phase II construction.
